Boko Haram attacks Borno Governor again

The Governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum opens up on the Boko Haram attack on his convoy leading to the death of some security officers.

This was contained in a statement released by the Borno State Governor’s spokesperson, Isa Gusau

Zulum stated that the ultimate intention of the Boko Haram sect is to take over the state.

He prayed for the lost souls of the late security operatives and also urged all stakeholders to remain committed to ongoing peace building efforts.

From his spokesman:

“Governor Babagana Umara Zulum is saddened by this unfortunate carnage.

He shares the grief of families of these 11 priceless heroes to whom Borno shall remain grateful.

The governor prays for the repose of their souls and urges all stakeholders to remain committed to ongoing peace building efforts.

Zulum is of the opinion that we must continue to keep hope alive even in the face of tribulations, and believe that with sustained efforts and prayers, Borno will eventually regain peace.

The situation facing us is a tough one but we must choose between doing something which gives us some hope and doing nothing which will leave us more vulnerable to Boko Haram’s ultimate wish to take over Borno and bring it under their sovereign brutal”.

Monguno is north and about 80km drive to Maiduguri, the town hosted thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) mostly from Marte, Baga, Kukawa, Dikwa and other surrounding Local Government Areas.

The reports on recent attacks is coming barely 48 hours when some members of the sect ambushed the convoy of Governor Zulum along Cross Kauwa Baga road in Borno state dropping over 30 people dead including 10 policemen and 4 soldiers.

According to sources, the driver manoeuvred and drove the vehicle on the flat wheel to escape the scene.

One of the occupants/Journalist in the affected bus who did not want his name mentioned confirmed that the convoy ran into another Boko Haram ambush about 50km away to Maiduguri.

Unfortunately, the Journalist cell phone lines went off due to poor network, but investigation revealed that no casualty recorded in the latest Sunday ambush.
