Borno relaxes religious gatherings ban despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which is currently ravaging the country with over four thousand confirmed cases in Nigeria

Churches and Mosques have been asked to reopen in Borno state despite the coronavirus pandemic in the country and in the state, 9jatalkative reports

Although the ban on religious gatherings are lifted the residents of the state are to observe strict guidelines on maintaining physical distancing during service/prayer

This was made known by Umar Kadafur, the Borno state’s deputy governor and chairman of the state coronavirus response committee, in a newly released statement.

9jatalkative reports that according to him, the government of Borno state will go back to the initial ban if the coronavirus counts continues to rise

The statement from the Government of Borno state read as follows;

“Henceforth, Jumma’at prayers and five daily prayers shall be observed in all mosques as recommended by the Borno State Council of Ulamas in strict adherence with social distancing and the use of face masks.”

“All churches shall conduct church services as recommended by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Borno Chapter in strict adherence with social distancing and use of face masks.”

“Government has considered the recommendation of the Borno State Council of Ulamas which clearly states that Eid prayers is Sunnah (non obligatory), hence there should be no Eid prayers.”

“The Borno state government also says that the faithfuls should remain at home during the period.”

With more coronavirus cases being confirmed in Nigeria by the nigerian center for disease control, the Borno state government has lifted the ban

Funerals and naming ceremonies are allowed as long as it contains only 20 persons at most according to the rules of the state
