Punish me says Governor Godwin Obaseki
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State discloses that he should be punished if he attempts to become a ‘political godfather’.
Obaseki said this after he proceeds as the governor of Edo state for the second term under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In the previous governorship election that was held at Edo state recalls that Obaseki had joined the PDP following his disqualification from contesting in the governorship primary election for Edo by the All Progressive Congress.
He, however, went on to win the election under the oppositing camp, defeating Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the APC, with 307,955 votes against 223,619.
There have been rumours going about, suggesting that Obaseki who just won with the support of the PDP could possibly return to his former party, APC.
However, speaking with newsmen on Friday, September 25, after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock, the governor said leaving the PDP for the APC goes.
“against Buhari’s gospel of integrity”.
Obaseki said he should be dealt with if he attempts to become a “godfather” after his time in office.
He discloses that, godfatherism has no place in Edo State.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, September 24, Obaseki denied being behind the alleged arrest of some members of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The Governor’s spokesman, Crusoe Osagie, filed the report on Thursday while commenting to an allegation by the APC that its members in the state are now being arrested by the Nigeria Police on the orders of the governor.
