The University of Calabar hosts the 7th All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championship (ANUDC) from November 24, to December 1, 2019.

The event is the 7th consecutive Championship of ANUDC hosted by Nigerian Universities, since its establishment 7 years ago. It annually attracts massive participation from Nigerian University student Debating Clubs, in furtherance both of the university culture of debates and training of undergraduate students, the cream of Nigerian youths,

in the art and discipline of peaceful conflict resolution through decent conversation and exchange of contending views on topical national and international socio-political issues. This year’s event christened Nneme 2019, has an added significance as a homecoming of ANUDC, Inc. to the University of Calabar, where the maiden tournament held and ANUDC was inaugurated.

The All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championship is the intellectual equivalent of the Nigeria Universities Games (NUGA). Indeed, the Championship annually affords undergraduate students, the cream of Nigerian youths, the opportunity to meaningfully engage in practical peaceful conflict resolution exercises, through conversation and exchange of competing views in an environment of debates.

The tournament motions are topical and cut across national and international socio-political and human condition challenges.
The maiden edition was hosted by the University of Calabar in October 2013, it was won by the same university.

It marked the formal establishment of the Championship as an All-Nigeria Universities annual debating event. Its governing body, the ANUDC Council, was also formally inaugurated, with the Convener of that maiden Championship, Prof. Eze Bassey Eze as the foundation Chairman and the leadership of all participating universities as members. The University of Lagos was granted the hosting right for the second ANUDC in 2014 (the next year) with its Convener, Dr Yewande Ntekim-Rex as the new Chairperson of the ANUDC Council. Unfortunately, the outbreak of the deadly Ebola disease caused the University of Lagos to delay the tournament till January 2015,

when it finally took place and was won by the host. Later, in September that year, 2015, Imo State University hosted the third ANUDC, haven won the bid to do so at the second Championship held at the University of Lagos. It was at that third Championship that the ANUDC Constitution was formally adopted.

That led to the streamlining of offices and the election of the first ANUDC Executive Committee with Dr. Ndubuisi Osuagwu as President of ANUDC and new Chairman of ANUDC Council. The Tournament was won by Imo State University. The fourth ANUDC was hosted by Covenant University in July 2016.

It marked a turning point in the life of the Championship as it attracted the largest level of participation in its four years of existence with greater control exerted by a more stable ANUDC administrative structure. Participation in the Championship also became the exclusive preserve of Nigerian Universities that are properly registered members of ANUDC.

It was won by University of Ilorin. In October 2017, University of Port Harcourt hosted the 5th edition. And the University of Calabar emerged winners making it their second victory and the first time in the history of the competition, a university was winning twice.

The hosting right for the 6th edition was granted to the University of Ilorin and was successfully hosted in September 2018 and was won by Covenant University, making them the first private university to win the competition.
