Three feared dead as Kwara bridge collapses at OKo-erin, Illorin, Kwara state. One person has been confirmed dead while two other bodies are still missing.
The bridge located at OKo-erin, Illorin, Kwara state, collapsed after heavy downpour on the night of Saturday 13th June, leading to a tragic loss of life.
A car carrying three passengers was on the bridge when it collapsed, according to an eyewitness report.
“The bridge collapsed around 10pm on Saturday night because of heavy downfall. The driver was on the bridge when it tore apart and they fell into the canal. They died because they could not get help as people didn’t have means of rescuing them, we had to standby and expect the emergency team to come.” the eyewitness said
Confirming the incident, the Kwara state government via its Twitter handle, said efforts are being made to find two missing persons. The state government says so far, one person has been confirmed dead in the incident and government agencies are on site to mitigate the situation.
As at the time of this report report on the collapse oko-erin Bridge, The vehicle has been removed from the ditch by Officers of the Kwara state road management agency, Officers of the Nigeria police force and the FRSC have mount road blocks to ensure safety and warn road users about the possible total collapse of the bridge.
