Tribunal cancels Bayelsa governorship election thereby confirming that Duoye Diri is no longer the governor of Bayelsa state

The Bayelsa state governorship election tribunal which is sitting in Abuja has now cancelled the election of Duoye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa state.

This is coming after The Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) had requested that the tribunal cancels the election of the state

According to information reaching 9jatalkative News, this is because it was not included in the election which held on November 16, 2019.

Delivering judgment on Monday, August 17, 2020 Yunusa Musa, a judge, upheld the request of the ANDP and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election in Bayelsa within a period of 90 days.

The current governor, Duoye Diri, a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was sworn in as governor after the supreme court sacked David Lyon as governor-elect 24 hours before his inauguration.

The apex court based its judgement on the premise that Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo, running mate of the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), presented forged certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
