UN calls for End to violence in Nigeria
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, has called for the end of violence on protesters and police brutality in Nigeria.
Mr Antonio Guterres condemned the killings and violence on the protesters and also mentioned that he has been following the recent events in the country.
He also charged the Nigerian authorities to investigate the event of the 20th at Lekki and hold the perps accountable.
His statement read;
The Secretary-General is following recent developments in Nigeria and calls for an end to reported police brutality and abuses. He condemns the violent escalation on October 20 in Lagos which resulted in multiple deaths and caused many injuries.
The Secretary-General urges the security forces to act at all times with maximum restraint while calling on protestors to demonstrate peacefully and to refrain from violence
